    Love Food Hate Waste Logo

Love Food Hate Waste raises awareness of the need to reduce food waste and provides hints, tips and recipes to help everyone waste less, save money and help the environment.

Food waste is a major issue. We throw away 7.2 million tonnes of food and drink from our homes every year - most of this could have been eaten. Wasting food costs the average household £480 a year, rising to £680 for a family with children, that’s around £50 a month. It’s bad for the environment too, if we all stop wasting food that could have been eaten, the benefit to the planet would be the equivalent of taking 1 in 5 cars off the road.

Zero Waste Scotland is proud to support The Big Lunch in Scotland, helping people to make the most of their food, save money and reduce their impact on the environment, by wasting less.

Scotland throws away 556,000 tonnes of food and drink from their homes every year, most of which could have been eaten. This waste of good food costs £430 for the average household. They work with businesses, individuals, communities and local authorities to help them reduce waste, recycle more and use resources sustainably.
